Bodegas Ayuso – Estola Reserva – 2010

Spain,
Castilla La Mancha,
Red wine with a medium deep ruby core, slightly rusty on the rim. Quite sweet nose showing some evolution here, with dry spices, dry wood; slightly dried fruit, red berries and plum. We have a certain herbal spiciness here like aniseed, dill. Palate is quite full here, we still have a fair deal of extract. The fruit is slightly more restrained with those dried fruity notes of prune, dried berries, with an addition of that spiciness, aniseed, licorice. We have some wood here as well; not really roasted or vanilla but more like cedar wood and tobacco in terms of flavour. Alcohol is well-integrated. It has a medium towards long finish, still with a certain tannic presence on the finish. I think it offers pleasure now in a very traditional style, with a clear influence of oak aging. A hotter climate in terms of style, but it performs well for that.
