Italy,
Piedmont,
Light ruby core, with a lighter rather orange tawny rim. Elegant nose. There is partially some primary fruit like crushed red berries, red cherry, but with some complexity that comes from ageing as well. There is a fine degree of spiciness here, with mild spices such as vanilla, white pepper and clove. Some notes of tobacco as well. Good grip on the palate. Plenty of extract, but that is doubtlessly part of the style here. Really juicy, sweet red fruit, like raspberry, Roséhip and cherry. Finely grained tannins almost adding a flavour of bitter chocolate. So plenty of extract and structure. It keeps within a bit more than that medium-bodied frame. Certainly with a lot of flavour intensity. Really long, lingering and powerful finish. Yet I would call it an elegant style, elegant but powerful. I do think that this drinks tremendously well right now. Particularly paired with food, with some of those traditional Piedmont dishes. However, it should lose a bit of that tannic presence. Round off the edges and gain far more complexity from further ageing. Darn delicious already.
