Very dark core, almost opaque centre, high viscosity. Quite elegant nose here, layered with some mineral notes, a hint of smoke, dark berries, blackberry cassis, and fine spices. There’s a dash of oak there but not really too obtrusive. Still very youthful, but a great density on the palate. Really good volume, well-distributed tannins there. Really nice texture, very very persistent. It still needs time to open up, but I really like this. Layers of that dark inky fruit, fine spices, black pepper, there’s some ripe herbs in there, almost like mint and sage. Some meaty notes as well. Very good intensity on the finish. Long, and despite the ripe dark fruit it has a brilliant freshness all along the way. This is certainly a vin de garde, or a wine to put away, for many years. I like it now because of its very alluring dark fruit, however this is definitely a style that will gain complexity in the cellar. And then I will be happy to enjoy this with something gamey, dark meat, raw deer with truffles, things in that direction. Very nice.
