Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux

France,
Bordeaux,
Red wine still with a very youthful core. Dark ruby red there, starting to loose colour on the rim. The nose is quite ripe with layers of dark fruit, sweet plum, dark berries, hint of wood, and a touch of leather. Palate is quite concentrated, good core of really dark fruit. There is plenty of extract as well, but pretty fine extract in terms of tannin, adding just some slightly peppery, spicy notes underneath that dark fruit. So layers of dark plum, blackberry, a little hint of oak. Quite high degree of ripeness. The alcohol is noticeable, but not obtrusive in any way. On the finish it still has a good degree of freshness in terms of acidity. A long finish, attractive dark fruit. Good. I talk about a nice drinkability today, still a structure to go on for four to five more years.
