Château Malmaison – Baronne Nadine de Rothschild – 2012

France,
Bordeaux,
Dark ruby-red core, almost impenetrable. The nose is quite forward, opulent, with sweet fruit; charming with a hint of wood and vanilla, and layers of crushed berries, dark plum. Good weight on the palate, quite dense core of fruit; sweet and attractive fruit here, with mild spices all along, discreet wood. A quite high acidity, but the tannins are already fairly integrated, they’re present but not dominating. Good length, keeps lingering. The finish is showing off more of that attractive red fruitiness, with settled wood. Overall a good balance, a wine I would call rather accessible today, and it should drink well within the near future; but it certainly has the potential to develop more complexity over the coming ten years.
