Switzerland,
Johannisberg du Valais,
Quite intense golden colour, still with a youthful brightness to it. Very complex nose, excellent purity, great richness. The wine is displaying some almost candied notes of pineapple, glazed apricot, creme brûlée, plenty of floral stuff, and fine spices like saffron. Great wealth and complexity. Very luscious palate, very intriguing, with layers of that tropical fruit tantalising the palate. Creamy, rounded texture. Alcohol doesn’t feel very high, this is really late-harvest grapes but well-preserved by that vibrant acidity in the background. High complexity here, it’s still a quite youthful wine that will continue to develop easily for many many years; but I find this purity of fruit and that clean botrytis, and the absence of oak. Very long intense finish. Superb wine, really beautiful, to drink today or to keep in the cellar for many years.
