Austria,
Burgenland,
Quite deep colour, ruby-red, nothing blue or purple. It has lost some of that youthful shine, getting slightly paler at the rim. Generous nose here. Showing some maturity, quite high ripeness, with dark fruit, dark plum, cherry, some earthy notes as well. A hint of smoke, almost like black truffle and a mild spiciness. Palate has a lot of weight, full-bodied but with a nicely rounded texture. Very finely grained tannin in the background. Mild but quite mellow acidity, but really a nice wealth of dark juicy fruit. Long finish as well. Quite subtle texture today. Yeah, I really like it. It is far from a young wine, so starting to open up and a bit more complexity is emerging on the finish. It is powerful, it is rich, its concentrated. In terms of extraction and oak, everything is in place. I would happily drink it today. It should continue to develop for six, seven, eight years.
