Réserve de Bonpas – 2013
Châteauneuf du Pape

France,
Rhone Valley,
Medium intensity in terms of colour here, classic ruby-red, rather youthful. Sweet nose of jammed strawberries, red fruit, some cherry, with a mild spiciness. No evident oak. The palate has a nice charm here, with a lot of sweet fruit. Good juiciness and roundness. It is a bit more than medium weight but in terms of texture, quite loose and polished already. Underlined by a quite vital freshness. Giving a lift to that sensation of sweet fruit. So it doesn’t really taste jammy but it is rather the nose that gives the sensation of comfiture. Juicy, fresh with a fine drinkability. Slight spiciness on the finish. Quite delicious already now but it should continue to develop over the coming five, six, seven years.
