Italy,
Friuli Venezia Giulia,
Quite deep ruby-red, but still transparent at the core, with a lighter, ruby rim. The nose is pure. It is showing a quite high degree of ripeness. There is quite sweet fruit. I think this is boarding that youthful fruit, but with some secondary aromas that coming from bottle ageing. So we have a slight hint of earthiness, a slight hint of black truffle. A gentle hint of oak, vanilla. Then dark fruits such as dark cherry, cassis. With a herbal spiciness, some liquorice, anise seed and sage. It is certainly a full-bodied wine with a lot of grip. Truly tannic. Well, I should say, a tannic style in terms of grape varieties. The wine I think is just about to open up now. It does not leave the palate dry, but it gives a lot of structure and weight. I like those aromatic herbs almost on the balsamic character some bouquet garni, Rosémary, some wild herbs. It is nicely underlined by lushes dark cherry fruit with notes of cassis. Very long and spicy finish. I do not get any kind of oak on the palate. It is certainly quite ripe in style, but the alcohol is nicely integrated as well. Very nice glass of wine. Drinking well now but should have the potential to continue to develop. Very curious to see what this is.
