Cantina Sociale Mendrisio – Scudo d’Oro – 2012

Red wine with a medium intense ruby-red colour. Spicy notes, there is a slight animal element there of leather, a hint of barnyard with red fruit, plum, and mild spices. The palate has medium weight with high acidity. Moderately high in extract, it seems to have gotten a certain integration. Quite a sweet fruity character, like sweet red cherry and plum. Some of that leathery or those leathery animal notes. They are less present on the taste than on the nose. There is a slight hint of oak. Red fruit, high acidity, medium towards long finish. A wine that still appears a bit young, that I would prefer to put back for one to two more years to gain some more roundness and harmony.
